The five major histone proteins are H1, H2A, H2B, H3, and H4. Two molecules each of H2A, H2B, H3, and H4 make up the histone octamer, which combines with DNA to form the core nucleosome particle.

Nucleosome is the structure of chromatin fibrils in the form of beads on a string (beads are special proteins for DNA packaging - histones; and string is DNA).
For that reason the original DNA chain is shortend by about 7 times.
